DuluxGroup has officially opened the biggest and most advanced paint manufacturing factory in Australia and New Zealand, creating 60 new jobs in the process.

Located in Merrifield, Victoria, the new 22,000 square metre factory will be the base for almost all Dulux water-based paints, enabling the company to produce more advanced paint products using evolving technology.

According to DuluxGroup, it has been delivered almost exclusively by local companies and will produce 50 million litres of water-based decorative paint a year.

Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll, who attended the official opening of the new factory, said the move coincided with the celebration of DuluxGroup’s 100th anniversary.

“We are proud to have supported this project, which will bring jobs to Melbourne’s north – an area affected by the closure of car manufacturing,” the Minister added.

“Victoria is the home of manufacturing and DuluxGroup’s decision to set up this new factory here is a vote of confidence in our strong advanced manufacturing capabilities.”

Member for Yuroke Ros Spence said the $165 million factory will deliver a huge boost for the local economy.

“The Merrifield site is quickly becoming a leading manufacturing hub – thanks to the support from the Andrews Labor Government,” Mr Spence concluded.
