DroneShield, a leading provider of counter-drone technology, announced the release of its firmware update for Q3 2024.

This update applies to their full range of Radio Frequency (RF) sensors, including the RfPatrol Mk2, RfOne Mk2, and all DroneSentry-X models.

The latest firmware update broadens the range of drones detectable by DroneShield’s Radio Frequency Artificial Intelligence (RFAI) system, the ASX-listed company said in a media release.

This expansion includes several new drone models identified through collaborative efforts with customers who provided real-world recordings of previously unrecognised drones.

Key features of the new firmware update include:

  • Advanced Scanning: Users now have the ability to customise the scanning patterns of their devices. This includes the integration of AI-powered RF scanning, Wi-Fi scanning, and other emission detection methods, allowing for a more tailored and effective detection process.
  • Directional Hardware Upgrade: The Directional Antenna Units for the RfPatrol Mk2 have been upgraded to offer increased sensitivity and improved performance in pinpointing drone locations.
  • Directional Filtering: The RF filters on the DroneSentry-X Mk2 have been enhanced to better adapt to varying operational environments, improving the system’s overall efficacy.
  • Expanded API: The update features an expanded API for all DroneShield systems, enabling remote control of major features, including signal filters and detection band activation, streamlining operational management.
  • Code Downloads: Client developers now have access to protocol buffer code packages via the Access Portal, facilitating the seamless integration of DroneShield hardware into third-party systems.

Angus Bean, DroneShield’s chief technology officer, emphasised the importance of this update, stating, “Our focus on delivering world-class counter drone technology is highlighted by collaboration with our valued customers.”

He added, “We provide the latest integration tools they need, and work closely with them to gain insights to the cutting-edge threats they experience.”
