
Downer EDI Limited has secured a NZD 600 million (AUD 540 million) Electricity Field Services Agreement with New Zealand energy distributor Powerco.
The contract, set to begin on 1 July 2025, will run for an initial five-year period valued at NZD 250 million, with extension options that could extend its term to 12 years.
Under the agreement, Downer will provide maintenance, minor capital works, and fault repair services across two regions of Powerco’s electricity distribution network on New Zealand’s North Island.
The contract replaces Downer’s existing field services work with Powerco, Downer said in a media release.
Downer Chief Executive Officer Peter Tompkins said the contract reinforces the company’s leadership in power distribution services.
“This long-term contract reflects Downer’s strong and reliable performance for Powerco over more than a decade,” he said.
“It strengthens our position as a market leader in New Zealand’s utilities sector and is a strong endorsement of Downer’s track record in delivering cost-effective, safe, and reliable energy services.”
Tompkins added that the partnership aligns with efforts to support energy reliability and sustainability.
“We look forward to furthering our partnership with Powerco and leveraging our capability to support their commitment to a lower carbon world.”
According to Downer, the contract ensures remains a key player in New Zealand’s electricity sector, maintaining essential infrastructure and supporting Powerco’s network operations.
