Paint manufacturer Dulux has recently opened a new manufacturing facility that will produce the majority of its water based decorative paint requirements.

Located in the new Merrifield Business Park in Melbourne’s North, the $165m, highly automated paint factory is now the largest coatings factory in Australia, allowing Dulux to step into the next generation of paint manufacturing technology and innovation.

“The new factory will enable the company to produce more advanced paint products using evolving technology in resins with even greater levels of quality and consistency,” Dulux said in a statement.

“It’s strategic location on the Hume Highway provides good connectivity to the Eastern Seaboard. It also provides access to a skilled workforce in a growing region to support the business now and into the future. ”

The new factory has to date created about 70 new jobs, with many of the employees being former Ford workers who had lost their jobs when the car maker shut its facility in Broadmeadows  last year.
