DECO Australia, a manufacturer of aluminium building products, has become the first of its kind to transition all of its aluminium supply from Capral to a lower-carbon aluminium LocAl Green.
The partnership agreement, signed by DECO and Capral Aluminium with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in attendance, is an important step in DECO’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
“Capral Aluminium is Australia’s largest aluminium extruder, and we are pleased to announce today that DECO Australia and Capral have reached agreement for Capral to supply DECO with lower carbon aluminium to assist in producing more environmentally friendly building products,” said Ross Doonan, founder and director of DECO Australia.
The partnership is aligned with DECO’s Sustainable Framework, which has a core environmental commitment to reduce emissions across the business, including product offerings.
“The switch to LocAl Green aluminium will also directly support our customers across the architectural and building industries by supplying aluminium building products made from responsibly sourced, lower-carbon aluminium, helping them to achieve their own sustainable initiatives and outcomes,” said Richard Hamber, general manager DECO Australia.
LocAl Green aluminium possesses the same technical properties as primary aluminium but is manufactured using lower-emission energy sources, thus reducing the embedded carbon of the aluminium by 50 per cent compared to the global average for primary aluminium.
The partnership between the two companies is expected to pave the way for a cleaner and greener building industry, DECO said in a press release.
“We have worked together to ensure we can support DECO on their sustainability journey,” said Luke Hawkins, Capral’s general manager of industrial and procurement. “This is what it’s all about, making it possible for Australian manufacturers to make responsible and sustainable procurement decisions around Aluminium.”
DECO Australia will begin receiving LocAl Green deliveries from June 2023.
