Media Release
Australian innovator Contactile has been awarded the winner of the Advanced Manufacturing Award at the Australian Technologies Competition 2020, which seeks to identify and accelerate Australian technology ‘scaleups’ with the greatest global potential.
The Australian Technologies Competition brings experienced entrepreneurs, business builders, angel investors, venture capital funds, commercialisation experts, leading corporates and government representatives together with founders, in a collaborative coaching environment. It has a strong focus on equipping founders with the skills and contacts to develop and manage high growth companies in challenging international markets.
This year, from the 217 entrants, 43 semi-finalists were chosen to take part in an intensive one week ‘Growth Masterclass’ and mentoring with industry experts to help the businesses develop concise business plans. These were assessed by a panel of judges with a wealth of experience across a variety of industries and disciplines to select 19 finalists. The finalists participated in a virtual National Showcase where they were questioned by the judges on their technology and business plan. Finally, the 12 winners were announced in a virtual awards ceremony on 20th October 2020.
Contactile entered the Australian Technologies Competition with innovative new product, the PapillArray tactile sensor, which gives robots a human sense of touch to enable general purpose robotics that can use their hands just like people do, so that they can assist people to do dull, dirty and dangerous jobs. This innovation has applications in advanced manufacturing, agriculture, health and even space.
Contactile CEO, Heba Khamis, said “Contactile is honoured to have been chosen for the Advanced Manufacturing Award. The team has spent much time working and developing what started as an idea into something that we hope will improve many lives around the world. To receive this recognition is a fantastic reward and will help motivate the team as we expand and develop the business.”
