Australian-owned floorcare and cleaning company Godfreys last month announced the opening of a new Commercial Support Office in Melbourne. While the showroom itself marks an exciting foray into commercial cleaning at an impressive scale, it also suggests the beginning a new post-covid era that sees a renewed focus on health and safety in the manufacturing industry and beyond.

Since its inception in 1931, Godfreys has grown to over 200 company and franchise-owned stores across Australia and New Zealand. Traditionally, the retail brand has earned its stripes within the domestic realm as the vacuum and cleaning specialists.

However, this could soon evolve to have more of an industrial and commercial focus as businesses throughout Australia respond to the rising industry standards for hygiene and cleanliness in the wake of the recent covid pandemic.

When asked how the new showroom will differ from traditional stores, Godfreys General Manager of the Commercial & Industrial Division, Daniel Pisaniello explained that the location was established to cater to emerging commercial needs:

“The showroom showcases a full range of commercial cleaning machines and products, providing visitors with the opportunity to explore the Godfreys Commercial product range and find the most efficient and effective cleaning solution for their individual business size and needs.

The showroom also offers one-on-one access to Godfreys Commercial experts, providing customers with education and training from the best in the industry – to not only find the right products for their needs but to understand how to get the most out of them.”

The opening of the new Commercial Support Office also comes in the wake of a fresh winter surge in covid cases that reaffirms the idea that the pandemic is far from over. A sentiment recently reiterated by Chief Medical Officer Professor Paul Kelly who urged employers not to get complacent with their occupational health and safety (OHS) initiatives.

Godfreys itself has seen firsthand just how significant the pandemic’s impact has been on hygiene expectations. The showroom itself represents a critical element in Godfreys’ commercial growth agenda, helping them meet the surging demand for commercial cleaning solutions over recent years.

To the point of this rising demand, Pisaniello notes that the standard of cleanliness is now becoming a core focus, with all industries – not just manufacturing – now revamping their cleaning programs:

“We have seen a greater focus on the right type of cleaning equipment used, as the core focus of a clean work environment is now more important and being better managed. The pandemic did help drive the awareness of a cleaner environment, however, it has continued to be kept in high regard. Regardless of whether it’s factory floors, offices or washrooms within the premises, all areas must be cleaned and maintained to the highest of standards.”

In the pursuit of maintaining to-standard workplaces, manufacturing plants and factories, Pisaniello emphasises that an especially effective way to promote greater workplace healthy and safety is through cleanliness:

“Hygiene is important in the workplace because it contributes to a healthy workforce. A healthy workforce is not only happier, but more productive. A healthy workplace also means workers take less sick leave.

Ensuring floors are clean and dry at all times can prevent falls and workplace injuries. Therefore, it is important workplaces clean up spills as they happen. It is also important to keep walkways clean and free of clutter. An unexpected object in a walkway can create a tripping hazard for your staff and visitors.”

The opening of Godfreys Commercial Showroom coincides with the company’s 90th year in business and is located at 2 Drake Boulevard, Altona, Victoria. Opening hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, and manufacturing plant owners or operators are invited to book an appointment on 1800 314 580 or email commercial@godfreys.com.au.
