Cognex Corporation has unveiled the In-Sight L38 3D Vision System, marking a significant leap forward in inspection and measurement capabilities.
This innovative system integrates AI, 2D, and 3D vision technologies to tackle a diverse array of industrial applications, the company said in a media release.
The In-Sight L38 is engineered to generate unique projection images that seamlessly blend 3D information into easily interpretable 2D images, simplifying training processes and uncovering features that may elude traditional 2D imaging methods.
Leveraging AI tools, the system excels at detecting variable or undefined features, while its rule-based algorithms ensure precise 3D measurements, thereby delivering dependable inspection outcomes.
Carl Gerst, executive vice president of Vision and ID Products at Cognex, emphasised the system’s multifaceted capabilities.
“In factory automation, where fast deployment and reliability are not just desired but essential, the In-Sight L38 offers both,” he noted.
Gerst continued, “It’s more than a 3D vision system. It’s an AI-powered solution for achieving new levels of quality and performance in automated inspections.”
One of the key features of the In-Sight L38 is its streamlined configuration process, facilitated by embedded AI technology.
Pre-trained models with domain-specific data eliminate the need for complex programming, making application development significantly more efficient.
With example-based training, users can set up AI-powered 3D tools in mere minutes, requiring only a handful of labelled images to automate tasks effectively.
The system’s patented, speckle-free laser optics ensure minimal visual noise and glare, enabling it to capture high-resolution images surpassing those obtained by traditional laser displacement sensors.
Moreover, its high-powered laser facilitates rapid acquisition rates, supporting operations at high line speeds.
Notably, the laser adheres to Class 2 safety standards, negating the necessity for costly enclosures and offering enhanced light intensity compared to conventional systems, thereby optimising exposure requirements and enabling increased line speeds.
