Coates Power & HVAC provides manufacturing companies with turnkey solutions for power, compressed air, climate control and process cooling

Coates, Australia’s leading equipment hire and solutions provider, has expanded its offering to include turnkey power and HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) solutions for manufacturing, industrial, engineering, mining and oil & gas businesses across Australia.

Operating from key hubs in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, and supported by a network of regional branches, Coates Power & HVAC has an extensive range of custom-built equipment for temporary power, compressed air, climate control and process cooling applications.

The company also boasts an experienced team of engineers, electricians, fitter-mechanics, product specialists and project managers to provide end-to-end service, including consultation and planning, system design, project management and logistics, installation and commissioning, servicing and remote monitoring.

Kurt Edwards, Coates Power & HVAC Manager, says: “What sets Coates Power & HVAC apart is our ability to design a power and HVAC solution, integrate our activity with the customer’s workflow, and use local teams to deliver, install, commission and maintain the equipment on-site, anywhere in Australia.”

Building on Coates’ existing equipment hire fleet, the specialist power and HVAC range includes:

  • Power generation equipment, including generators, and battery and hybrid power systems
  • Power distribution equipment, from plug-and-play to large-scale industrial solutions
  • Air compressors and quality air equipment
  • Chillers, air handling units, cooling towers and heat exchangers
  • Air conditioners, commercial and industrial fans, and dehumidifiers

Supporting critical equipment breakdown in manufacturing

Coates’ orange hire equipment is a familiar sight on industrial and construction sites across the country. For existing customers, it makes sense to streamline processes and increase cost efficiencies by engaging Coates Power & HVAC to provide complementary services, such as temporary power and cooling systems.

While the manufacturing sector is generally less reliant on hire, critical equipment breakdown or failure can be disastrous.

“Limiting the impact of fixed plant failure and building more robust response or preventative systems are key,” says Kurt. “Coates Power & HVAC can mobilise quickly to address critical plant failure or work with customers to incorporate standby hire equipment into their contingency planning.”

This was evident recently when Coates Power & HVAC swung into action for Visy at its Moorabbin bottling factory in Melbourne. After an existing chiller failed, resulting in lost productivity of four million plastic milk bottles over four days, Visy urgently required an industrial chiller to get its production line moving again.

The team quickly dispatched an 800-kilowatt chiller from Sydney, accompanied by a Coates Product Specialist to facilitate installation and commissioning of the equipment. Within 36 hours of the initial call, the chiller was pushing volumes of cold water into the site’s chilled water storage tank, allowing the factory to resume production.

Providing more sustainable equipment options

With its experience across diverse industries, Coates Power & HVAC is well-prepared to tackle a wide array of challenges, says Kurt.

“Whether there is a breakdown at a manufacturing facility that requires a temperature control or compressed air solution, a chiller failure in a hospital that requires an emergency response, or you need a temporary power solution to stay operational during power transformer maintenance, these are all situations that Coates is experienced and well-equipped to support,” Kurt explains.

Coates is also seeing increased demand for more sustainable equipment, as companies across Australia focus on delivering on their net-zero commitments.

Coates launched its Greener Choices range in June 2022 and it has continued to invest in new battery electric, hybrid, solar, low pollutant engines and biofuel blend compatible equipment across categories including Access, Materials Handling, Lighting, Site Accommodation and Traffic Management.

In the power space, the company now offers low-emission power solutions like battery energy storage systems (BESS) to reduce the reliance on traditional diesel-powered generators, and hybrid power systems (HPS), which combine solar, battery and generator technologies for complete off-grid power solutions.

“For example, when customers are hiring portable site accommodation complexes from Coates, they can now work with Power & HVAC to design the most effective power solution for their site. This can involve diesel assets, battery storage and solar – in some cases, all three. With a wide range of equipment and value-add engineering, our aim is to reduce customer greenhouse gas emissions, reduce fuel burns and deliver on the Coates’ vision to provide safe, smart and sustainable equipment solutions ,” says Kurt.
