Sedgman, a key member of the CIMIC Group, has solidified its position as a comprehensive provider in the critical minerals sector through the acquisition of MinSol Engineering Pty Ltd.

This strategic move marks Sedgman’s third acquisition in the critical minerals processing domain, culminating in its evolution into a global powerhouse for the extraction and refinement of minerals crucial to the burgeoning clean energy technologies, CIMIC Group said in a news release.

Specialising in hard rock lithium concentration and refining processes, including metallurgical test work, flow sheet development, and detailed design, MinSol Engineering brings invaluable expertise to the table.

The company, now operating as Sedgman MinSol, boasts over 15 years of experience integral to the evolution of the global lithium industry.

MinSol Engineering’s proficiency in hard rock lithium processing, encompassing lithium carbonate concentration and lithium hydroxide refining, as well as rare earths and mineral sands, synergizes seamlessly with Sedgman’s existing brine lithium processing capabilities obtained through Sedgman Novopro.

According to CIMIC, this strategic alignment empowers Sedgman to deliver comprehensive mineral processing solutions tailored to the needs of the global energy transition.

Speaking on the acquisition, CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria expressed, “With the acquisition of MinSol Engineering, Sedgman has finalised the strategic journey it embarked on two years ago to diversify its commodities and extend its global capability into hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, chemicals and energy.”

He further stated, “The acquisitions of Sedgman Onyx, Sedgman Novopro, Sedgman Prudentia and now Sedgman MinSol, are a sign of Sedgman’s boosted capabilities and extended geographical reach, consolidating its position as a leader in minerals processing on a global scale.”

Grant Fraser, managing director of Sedgman, elaborated, “Sedgman now covers the complete process flowsheet in the critical minerals industries from comminution and beneficiation to hydrometallurgical refining through leaching, purification and metal recovery.”

Fraser further emphasized, “With the combined expertise of Sedgman Novopro and Sedgman MinSol, we aim to service the rising demand for brine lithium in the Americas and Europe, and hard rock lithium in Western Australia and North America, to support the demand for minerals used to manufacture the everyday goods used widely across our society and in the energy transition.”
