The Central Coast is boosting its sustainable travel infrastructure with 17 new electric vehicle (EV) charging sites funded through the NSW Government’s EV Destination Charging grants program.

These sites, featuring 30 charging ports, aim to make the region more accessible for EV drivers while supporting local tourism and reducing environmental impact, the government said in a news release.

As part of a broader state-wide initiative, the $20 million program will roll out over 1,300 EV charging ports at more than 500 locations.

The newly announced chargers complement the existing network of 189 fast-charging stations funded under the NSW EV Strategy, ensuring there’s a fast-charging option every 100km along major regional routes.

“By expanding our electric vehicle charging network, we’re not just improving convenience for residents and visitors; we’re also powering our local economy as more EV drivers mean more business for the Central Coast,” said Minister for the Central Coast David Harris.

“The NSW Government is also encouraging more people to adopt electric vehicles. This transition is a win-win as it benefits our environment and our local community.”

The new Central Coast sites, located in areas such as Budgewoi, Kulnura, Pretty Beach, West Gosford, and Wyoming, are strategically installed at motels, hotels, hospitality venues, and other high-traffic locations frequented by both residents and visitors.

The initiative has seen strong participation from tourism businesses and councils, particularly accommodation providers eager to attract eco-conscious travellers.

“Electric Vehicles provide a fantastic alternative for environmentally conscious car owners. The NSW Government is committed to investing in our EV infrastructure, ensuring that no matter where you travel, charging is available,” said Member for Gosford Liesl Tesch.

“This funding will ensure that the Central Coast continues to be a destination for all travellers, no matter how they travel.”

Round 3 of the EV Destination Charging grants program is now open, targeting gaps in EV infrastructure along regional NSW road trip routes. Businesses, councils, and landowners interested in hosting an EV charger can apply through the NSW Government’s energy website.

“This funding will help boost tourism to our area and provide greater EV charging opportunities for drivers,” added Member for the Entrance David Mehan.
