Boody is setting a new standard in the fashion industry with its FSC-certified bamboo underwear, spotlighting how small consumer choices can drive sustainability.

The brand, known for its eco-friendly approach, utilises Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified bamboo-derived viscose, underscoring its commitment to environmental protection and support for sustainable forestry communities.

According to Boody, the fashion industry continues to grapple with the challenge of meeting high consumer demand while minimising environmental harm.

Despite the potential of renewable fibres like man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCFs) to offer more sustainable alternatives, nearly half of these materials are still sourced from uncertified forests, posing a threat to vital ecosystems and emphasising the need for greater accountability.

This year, Boody strengthened its sustainability efforts by becoming an FSC Promotional Licence Holder and signing the FSC Fashion Forever Green Pact.

This initiative reaffirms the brand’s commitment to responsible sourcing and forest stewardship, ensuring that every garment with the FSC label contributes to the protection of global forests.

“Sustainability and comfort are at the core of what we do. We don’t see sustainability as an add-on; it’s fundamental to our process and purpose,” said Rebecca Innes, Product Lead at Boody.

Boody’s material choices reflect this ethos, with their products made from organically grown bamboo from FSC-certified sources.

“Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant on the planet, requiring no pesticides or insecticides, and it absorbs CO2 while producing 35% more oxygen than trees,” Innes noted.

Innes also highlighted the significance of Boody’s FSC certification: “We’re excited to be the first Australian Promotional Licence Holder signatory to the FSC Fashion Forever Green Pact. Our FSC licence is crucial because it assures our customers that the bamboo used in our products is responsibly and sustainably sourced, helping to protect the world’s forests for the future.”

Further advancing its sustainability mission, Boody introduced The Goodness Loop in 2023, a partnership with UPPAREL that repurposes old textiles, diverting them from landfills. In return, participants receive a $35 credit to spend on Boody’s range of essentials.
