BAE Systems will invest $45.5 million to expand its operations in Huntsville, Alabama over the next few years.

The company will invest in the development of office space and a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the Cummings Research Park which will support the design, development, and manufacture of precision munitions and aircraft survivability technology.

The new 7,710-square-metre facility, which will include engineering development space, manufacturing space, and laboratory space to support the US Department of Defense (DoD), is expected to be complete in 2019.

Paul Markwardt, vice president and general manager of Survivability, Targeting, and Sensing Solutions at BAE Systems, said the increased capacity will enable the company to execute on its commitments to customers while positioning it to address surging demand for key products within its Electronic Systems business.

“Our expansion in Huntsville provides us a great opportunity to establish a closer working relationship with our critical customers in the US Army and the Redstone Arsenal community,” Mr Markwardt stated.

“Huntsville is an ideal location to attract the key talent needed to develop and deliver important new capabilities to our customers.”

The company, which currently employs more than 380 workers in Alabama, said the investment will create ‘hundreds of new jobs’ over the coming years.
