As many businesses are being forced to close their doors during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are also a number of Australian manufacturers innovating to support essential services to facilitate safe trading. Carrum Downs fabric signage manufacturer, AFI Branding, is one local company doing just that.
The company which employs over 50 people across a purpose-built factory, fabrication and sales teams has been working to develop a range of safety measures to keep the staff and customers of essential services safe during the pandemic. Industries affected include pharmacies, supermarkets, medical centres and petrol stations who are needing to temporarily modify their trading area for the safety of the community. Products like perspex screens to attach to service counters, hand sanitiser stations, separation barriers for self-serve checkouts and floor decals to encourage social distancing are being designed and developed by the Victorian manufacturer.
Glenn Watson, Managing Director at AFI Branding says “These are unprecedented times. With a little innovation, we recognise we can adapt some of our existing products and create and design new ones to help essential trade through this period. At the forefront of what we’re doing is the safety and health of the community and allowing them to be able to access essential services safely. And of course, we want to continue to be able to keep our team employed and busy during these uncertain times. It’s in situations like this that we need to come together to support one another. Every day the landscape changes and simple signage and products can keep the community both informed and safe.”
AFI Branding typically serves industries like events, exhibition and retail and was responsible for providing all the signage for the Commonwealth Games in 2018. With the exhibition and events industries on hold, AFI saw the firsthand impact on clients, peers and colleagues. Over the last week, AFI Branding has been providing pharmacies and retailers across Australia with ‘social distancing signage’ to help support safe trading.
Brad Giblett, Community Pharmacist of Mt Eliza Pharmacy, said of the recently installed signage positioned at the front of its store: “If it helps to prevent one community transmission of COVID-19, then it’s worth its weight in gold.”
