In a major move for the Australian aluminium industry, the Australian Aluminium Council (AAC) has revealed the integration of the Australian Aluminium Extrusion Association (AAEA) into its membership and organisational framework.

This strategic move consolidates the aluminium sector, creating a unified and independent voice to advocate for the entire industry across Australia.

The integration, revealed today by AAC CEO Marghanita Johnson, underscores the Council’s expanded focus on the downstream aluminium manufacturing sector.

She noted, “The  Council represents the industry from mine to market – and now with an even stronger focus on the  downstream aluminium manufacturing sector in Australia.”

With a cohesive representation, the Council will  continue its direct engagement with the Australian Government and platforms like the International Trade  Remedies Forum to advocate in the face of uneven global competition,” Johnson said.

This consolidation aims to further the Council’s core mission of promoting a comprehensive understanding of the Australian aluminium industry, both domestically and globally.

According to the council, aluminium, known as a critical “Green Metal,” is crucial in the global transition to clean energy. As one of the world’s largest producers of bauxite, alumina, and aluminium, Australia is well-positioned to help meet the rising demand for this versatile material.

However, to remain competitive, the council said the government must ensure that Australia’s downstream manufacturers can thrive in a free and fair trade environment.

With the right policies in place, Australia’s manufacturing sector can attract further investment, driving the growth of the aluminium industry to meet escalating global demand, the council noted.

“We look forward to marking the strategic integration with the industry at the next Australian Aluminium Extrusion Conference in July 2025,” Johnson added.

“This will be an excellent opportunity to foster collaboration and innovation across the sector.”
