Global defence contractor Austal has announced the delivery of the first of two high speed catamaran ferries to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
The $30 million agreement – signed in April 2014 – contracted Austal to deliver two 45 metre catamaran ferries which the company proceeded to construct at its Philippines shipyard.
Austal Chief Executive Officer Andrew Bellamy said the delivery was made on time and within budget, demonstrating the company’s ability to compete in the global market.
“We continue to see opportunities in the Middle East and the energy sector and have the right production cost base in the Philippines to compete for commercial vessel contracts and successfully leverage our intellectual property with a proven design,” Mr Bellamy said.
He said the second ferry was in its final stages of construction and is scheduled for delivery later this quarter.
