The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has welcomed a new board appointment alongside the reappointment of two existing members.

Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen announced that Angela Karl will join the ARENA Board, while Marianna O’Gorman and Stephen McIntosh have been reappointed for their second and third terms, respectively.

O’Gorman will also assume the newly established Deputy Chair role, a position created through amendments to the Australian Renewable Energy Act 2011. The legislation also introduced an additional board seat.

Karl brings more than 20 years of experience in investment and advisory services focused on the energy transition.

She has held key roles at JP Morgan and UBS as the Australasian Head of Energy and Utilities Advisory and is currently Managing Director, Head of Energy Transition at HMC Capital.

Previously, she was a partner at QIC Global Infrastructure and a founding director of the Powering Australian Renewables Fund.

ARENA Board Chair Justin Punch welcomed Ms Karl’s appointment, highlighting her expertise in investment and clean energy transition as an asset to the agency’s mission.

“Australia’s shift to renewable energy, and ARENA’s role in facilitating it, requires bold and experienced leadership,” Punch said.

“Angela’s experience in investment and finance and her commitment to Australia’s net zero future make her an invaluable addition to the board.”

He also acknowledged the contributions of O’Gorman and McIntosh, noting that their continued presence, alongside fresh insights from Ms Karl, would help drive innovation in renewable energy technologies and support ARENA’s investment priorities.
