Altech Batteries has secured environmental and construction approval under Germany’s Federal Immission Control Act (BimSch-G) for its 120 MWh CERENERGY GridPack production facility in Saxony.

The approval allows Altech’s joint venture subsidiary, Altech Batteries GmbH, to commence site clearing and construction, contingent on project funding, as revealed in an ASX announcement.

The company, in partnership with engineering subcontractor LEADEC and architecture and balance of plant subcontractor ARIKON, submitted its permit and license application in September 2023.

In Germany, construction and operational approvals are largely dictated by environmental risk assessments, with many projects requiring authorization under BimSch-G.

Altech adopted a proactive approach by initiating the approval process alongside its definitive feasibility study to mitigate potential delays.

“We are pleased to have received the final licensing approval for our 120 MWh CERENERGY® battery project so early,” said Altech Group Managing Director Iggy Tan.

“Our approach of being dynamic, quick-moving, and running things concurrently puts Altech in good stead to complete the financing process.”

The BimSch-G approval is expected to enhance investor confidence as Altech advances its financing efforts.

The company believes that securing regulatory clearance ahead of funding will provide financial institutions with greater assurance in the project’s viability.

“We appreciate the authorities’ recognition of our professional and responsible approach, and we’re thankful for their exceptional support,” Tan added.

With the necessary permits in place, Altech said it is now focused on securing financial backing to advance construction of the CERENERGY battery facility.
