High-tech capability is set to bolster advanced manufacturing in NSW with the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility (AMRF) later this year, providing manufacturers with access to cutting-edge technology, training, and expertise.

In a news release, the government said the AMRF is poised to become a cornerstone of the manufacturing ecosystem in NSW, offering advanced capabilities to empower local manufacturers to scale up and excel on the global stage.

Among the advanced machines to be housed at the AMRF is the DMG Mori Multi-Axis Turn-Mill, facilitating efficient precision machining necessary for intricate parts utilised in advanced industries.

Additionally, the facility will feature the CMS Kreator, a versatile large-format hybrid 3D printing and milling machine renowned for its flexibility, sustainability, and reduction of material waste.

Moreover, the AMRF will host the Additive Industries MetalFABG2, specialising in the use of high-temperature nickel alloys and scalmalloy – a high-strength aluminium alloy – to manufacture top-quality components crucial for priority sectors like aerospace.

In addition to state-of-the-art technology, the AMRF will offer expert guidance and training programs led by a team of specialists boasting extensive industry knowledge across various domains, including additive manufacturing, advanced composites, precision machining, manufacturing automation, metrology and inspection, factory digitization, engineering design, and quality assurance.

Jennifer Westacott, chair of the Western Parkland City Authority, emphasised the AMRF’s significance in nurturing the existing manufacturing ecosystem in Western Sydney, situated at the heart of the new Bradfield City Centre in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.

Ben Kitcher, executive director of AMRF, highlighted the facility’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, strategically positioned on the doorstep of the new Western Sydney International Airport to accelerate business growth in NSW and unlock global manufacturing opportunities.

“The AMRF is set to open later this year, but there are numerous opportunities for manufacturing businesses to get involved now,” added Kitcher, inviting interested parties to explore opportunities to engage with the AMRF.
