The Federal Government is encouraging individuals, community groups and organisations to apply for a 2020 National Science Week grant.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews said grants of between $2,000 and $20,000 will be made available for ‘innovative ideas, events and projects that inspire Australians to get involved in science’.

“We want imaginative and skilled individuals, community groups and other organisations interested in holding an event during Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology to apply for a grant,” Minister Andrews said.

National Science Week is Australia’s major national celebration of the sciences, occurring in August each year. National Science Week 2020 will be held 15-23 August 2020, providing opportunities for community participation in high profile science engagement activities across the nation.

“This year there were 53 projects funded through National Science Week grants such as learning about healthy lifestyles in North East Arnhem Land, discovering the mathematics of music in Victoria, and exploring sustainability in the suburbs of Western Australia,” Ms Andrews continued.

“I hope National Science Week 2020 will see even more events across Australia. The aim is to make science fun and accessible to everyone, and to showcase the contributions of Australian scientists.”

To be eligible, a project must be directed towards a science-related activity that will be conducted in Australia during National Science Week, or where appropriate, in the week before or after National Science Week.

Projects can include activities at multiple locations, as long as all locations are within Australia.
