Australia’s iLAuNCH Trailblazer has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States-based Space Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Space ISAC) to strengthen collaboration on space technology and security.

The announcement was made during the 40th Space Symposium and sets out a framework for joint initiatives, including information sharing on space capabilities and cyber threat intelligence, as well as cooperation on events, training, and publications that support the Australian space industry.

Space ISAC, which brings together global space stakeholders, plays a central role in improving industry preparedness for vulnerabilities and threats by facilitating real-time information sharing and serving as a communication hub for space security and resilience.

iLAuNCH Trailblazer Executive Director Darin Lovett described the agreement as a step forward in supporting a secure and internationally connected space ecosystem.

“This landmark partnership with Space ISAC marks a significant step forward for iLAuNCH and our partners. It reflects our ongoing commitment to building a resilient and secure space ecosystem in Australia, one that is globally connected and commercially competitive,” Lovett said.

He added that recent changes to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) have paved the way for smoother technology transfers, enhancing prospects for Australian innovations to contribute to international efforts.

“Space ISAC’s mission to accelerate the deployment of commercial space solutions through accredited testbeds and trusted networks aligns with our goal of achieving flight heritage for Australian technologies,” Lovett said.

As part of the agreement, both parties will also explore the development of cybersecurity guidelines and best practices, and coordinate on integrated and deployable space systems, including through AUKUS-related international collaboration.

In late 2024, Space ISAC announced the creation of its Australia Global Hub to support cooperation within the country’s space and cybersecurity communities.

The hub is part of the organisation’s broader aim to establish a global watch centre to mitigate risks to space missions and infrastructure.

“The further expansion of Space ISAC into Australia aligns with our global vision of enhancing space sector security. This collaboration with iLAuNCH will drive information sharing and collective action to mitigate threats and strengthen resilience in space operations,” said Erin Miller, executive director of Space ISAC.
