Boral has announced the completion of its acquisition of Sand Supplies Pty Ltd, a move that secures access to two sand quarries in Victoria, located approximately 100km south-east of Melbourne.

The acquisition encompasses sites at Glen Forbes and Grantville, strengthening Boral’s supply chain and integrating with its downstream operations, Boral said in a news release.

Matt McKenzie, Boral’s executive general manager, Concrete & Quarries South, described the acquisition as a strategic step in ensuring the supply of a key raw material for the company’s concrete and asphalt production.

“The strategic acquisition of high-quality sand quarries in close proximity to the Melbourne metropolitan area will complement our Bacchus Marsh and Sandy Creek positions in the west and supplement our Grantville JV supply in the east to meet infrastructure and development needs in Victoria’s capital,” McKenzie said.

Boral stated that the integration of the quarries would play a crucial role in supporting major infrastructure projects in the Melbourne area.

The company also highlighted that Sand Supplies employees would transition to Boral, maintaining continuity of operations and expertise.

“Sand Supplies has a proud reputation for quality and service, and we look forward to continuing that tradition as part of Boral,” McKenzie added.

“Importantly, we welcome the Sand Supplies employees who will continue their employment as part of the Boral team.”

The company emphasised the significance of the newly acquired sites, citing their large capacity, proximity to a sand processing plant, and long-term reserves as factors that will enhance supply security for customers.

To mark the transition, Boral hosted a welcome lunch for Sand Supplies employees, with company executives including McKenzie, Executive General Manager People and Culture Sam Toppenberg, and General Manager Quarries Victoria Duncan Harris in attendance.
