Italian energy storage company Energy Dome has selected Melbourne as the location for its Asia-Pacific headquarters, a move supported by the Victorian Government as part of its efforts to attract global investment and bolster renewable energy initiatives.

Energy Dome, known for its CO2 Battery technology, offers long-duration energy storage that can support the transition away from coal-fired power and meet industrial energy demands, the government said in a news release.

The company is currently assessing potential sites across Victoria to deploy its technology, which could enhance local supply chains and contribute to the state’s sustainability goals.

“Energy Dome has identified critical advantages in establishing our APAC team in Victoria to lead the deployment of the CO2 Battery, and the Victorian Government’s support will enable us to accelerate our expansion in the state,” said Energy Dome CEO Claudio Spadacini.

Founded in Milan in 2020, Energy Dome is nearing completion of its full-scale CO2 Battery plant in Sardinia and has secured multiple commercial contracts for deployments in the United States and India.

Its expansion into Melbourne aligns with Victoria’s broader strategy to attract high-tech companies and foster innovation in the energy sector.

The Victorian Government has implemented various initiatives, including startup agency LaunchVic, Breakthrough Victoria, Invest Victoria, and the Victorian Government Trade and Investment Network, to support business growth and economic development.

The state has also set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045, a goal projected to create 59,000 jobs in renewable energy and related industries.

“Victoria is open for business – Energy Dome calling Victoria home will bring world-leading technology to Melbourne, create more jobs for Victorians, and contribute to our economic growth,” said Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs Danny Pearson.

Minister for Climate Action Lily D’Ambrosio highlighted the benefits of Energy Dome’s technology for Victoria’s renewable energy transition.

“This is a win for our renewable energy transition with groundbreaking long-duration energy storage technology available to help slash Victorians’ power bills,” she said.
