Fifteen Brisbane-based food and beverage companies are setting their sights on international markets as part of the latest cohort of the Brisbane Economic Development Agency’s (BEDA) Future Food Global Accelerator program.
Now in its eighth year, the initiative provides tailored support and industry connections to help businesses expand globally, as revealed in a media release.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner highlighted the program’s role in fostering innovation within the city’s food and beverage sector, describing it as a reflection of Brisbane’s entrepreneurial spirit.
“From innovative startups to beloved local brands, our food and beverage scene is part of what makes Brisbane a fantastic place to live, work and relax,” Schrinner said. “We’re proud to support local businesses as they serve up their products to a global audience and secure exciting opportunities for international expansion.”
BEDA’s State of The City report notes that Brisbane’s advanced manufacturing sector is growing at a rate five times faster than the national average.
The city’s proximity to the Asia-Pacific region, which represents 47% of global trade and a $90 trillion GDP, offers local businesses a strategic advantage in accessing international markets.
Among this year’s accelerator participants is Grove Juice, Australia’s largest grower of Valencia oranges. CEO Greg Quinn cited Brisbane’s skilled workforce and logistical advantages as key factors in the company’s expansion plans.
“We pick our citrus in Moree one day, juice it in Warwick the next day, and can have it bottled and on a truck or ship the day after that,” Quinn said.
“Brisbane is an excellent city to grow a world-class business because of its location and availability of a highly skilled and passionate workforce.”
The Future Food Global Accelerator has supported more than 400 businesses since its inception, including well-known brands such as Merlo Coffee, Hilton Foods, JBS Food Australia, and New Farm Confectionery.
The 2025 program, running throughout February, will provide direct access to industry experts, tailored mentoring, and resources designed to help companies scale into international markets.
