Evoro is investing $17 million into upgrading its Laverton North liquid and hazardous waste management facility.

The extensive upgrade, which is already underway, is scheduled for completion by late 2025. The project follows a thorough planning and approvals process that spanned five years.

The upgrade will enhance Evoro’s ability to provide a wide range of liquid and hazardous waste management services, including the neutralisation of acids and alkaline materials, wastewater processing for safe stormwater discharge, separating and purifying water from oil, recycling waste glycol, and safely disposing of or reusing hard-to-treat liquids.

Upgraded weighbridges and improved truck unloading processes are also part of the project, which will enhance the customer experience.

Evoro’s CEO, Susan McBurney, emphasised that the investment will integrate leading global technology and practices into the facility’s operations.

“This is a sweeping site overhaul enabling us to modernise operations to world-class standard,” McBurney said.

“Our clients from multiple industrial sectors will reap the benefits of better efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and service. Much of what we’re doing is a response to client feedback and in line with strict regulatory requirements.”

Jenny Barnes, Evoro’s Victorian General Manager, highlighted the environmental impact of the upgrade.

“Our forte at Laverton North is handling difficult-to-treat industrial waste, giving it a second life through recycling or preparing it for safe disposal,” Barnes explained.

“It’s a responsibility we conduct with professionalism and pride, knowing that such products could cause havoc if they were misused or illegally dumped, especially in waterways.”

The upgrade is also set to increase the site’s treatment capacity, which currently handles up to 60 million litres per year. Full-time employment at the facility is expected to grow from 34 to 40 workers.

LSR Construction Group, an industrial development specialist, has been selected to carry out the works through a tender process run by Evoro and Tango Projects.
