Carbonxt Group, a cleantech company focused on the United States market, has announced the mechanical completion of its state-of-the-art activated carbon production facility in Kentucky.

This achievement marks a significant step in the company’s expansion strategy to meet the growing demand for high-quality activated carbon products across North America, the company said in a news release.

The Kentucky plant, developed in partnership with joint venture collaborator KCP, is now ready for commissioning following the energisation of kiln circuits and the integration of control systems.

The facility’s innovative kiln design incorporates advanced temperature controls and exhaust gas recycling, underlining its commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.

The timing of this milestone aligns with robust growth in the activated carbon market, driven by increasingly stringent environmental regulations and expanding industrial applications.

In particular, heightened demand for water-phase treatment solutions, spurred by the US Environmental Protection Agency’s regulations on PFAS chemicals, has doubled the size of the liquid-phase market compared to air-phase applications.

Activated carbon’s versatility remains a key driver of its market relevance, playing a critical role in water treatment, industrial air purification, and broader industrial processes, including food production and pharmaceutical purification.

With global supply constrained and prices rising, the Kentucky facility positions Carbonxt as a leader in addressing these market needs.

The plant will allow Carbonxt to locally produce premium-grade liquid-phase activated carbon products, address sustainability challenges with low-carbon solutions, and adapt early production to meet immediate market demands or enhance existing product lines.

The production of initial samples in the upcoming March quarter will support the finalisation of long-term offtake agreements, further solidifying Carbonxt’s competitive position in North America.

The company has emphasised the Kentucky plant’s role in shaping its market leadership and sustainability objectives.
