Breakthrough Victoria has invested $10 million as part of a $30 million funding round to support Quantum Brilliance, an innovator in quantum diamond technology.
“Breakthrough Victoria’s investment in Quantum Brilliance marks a major milestone in establishing Victoria as a global leader in quantum technologies,” said Lauren Morrey, Acting CEO of Breakthrough Victoria.
“The world’s first quantum diamond foundry will drive innovation in advanced quantum computing and sensing, create highly skilled local jobs, and grow our emerging quantum industry.”
The new foundry is expected to boost Victoria’s capabilities in quantum device design and fabrication, further establishing the region as a hub for innovation in quantum technology, as revealed in a media release.
Minister for Economic Growth Tim Pallas emphasised the transformative potential of the investment.
“We’re investing in Quantum Brilliance to cement Victoria’s standing as a world leader in quantum technology, which has the potential to revolutionise many industries and create countless high-value job opportunities.”
Quantum Brilliance has already demonstrated its prowess in the field, deploying quantum accelerators to supercomputing facilities in Europe, the USA, and Australia’s Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.
The company also recently secured a multi-million-dollar contract with Germany’s Cybersecurity Agency.
Mark Luo, CEO of Quantum Brilliance, expressed confidence in the partnership.
“This capital partnership with Breakthrough Victoria demonstrates our generational ambition to create a high-impact, mass-deployable quantum devices industry that will transform the global landscape.”
“We are building a future where Australia leads the world in diamond quantum technology, much like NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI industry.”
The initiative will also sustain the Research Hub for Diamond Quantum Materials, a collaboration with La Trobe University and RMIT University established in 2022.
The hub has been instrumental in fostering local expertise and underpinned Breakthrough Victoria’s initial investment in Quantum Brilliance.
Victoria’s emerging quantum industry is further supported by co-investors such as Main Sequence and the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation.
