Return and Earn has introduced a “takes all” trial in Young, allowing residents to recycle eligible bottles, cans, and cartons without pre-sorting, using a single chute at the upgraded machine.
The upgraded Return and Earn machine is located at Donges SUPA IGA Young in the car park at 159 Boorowa Street and is open daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, as revealed in a news release.
“Hilltops Council residents are already enthusiastic recyclers, having returned over 46.8 million eligible bottles, cans, and cartons through local return points since the scheme began,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, the network operator for Return and Earn.
“These improvements to local return points will make it even easier and quicker to return your eligible bottles and cans and pocket the refund.”
Recyclers can continue to choose how they receive their refunds—via printed vouchers redeemable at Woolworths, e-vouchers, or direct payments into their bank or PayPal accounts using the Return and Earn app.
Alternatively, refunds can be donated to over 300 charitable organisations listed on the app, including the statewide donation partner, Foodbank NSW & ACT.
Foodbank, a vital food relief charity, supports individuals and families across NSW and the ACT.
Return and Earn has emerged as a significant fundraising tool for charities and community groups, generating over $62 million in donations and hosting fees since its inception in 2017.
Since the scheme’s launch, more than 12.5 billion drink containers have been recycled across NSW, contributing over $1.2 billion in refunds back into the hands of the community.
The network’s impact goes beyond financial returns by promoting sustainability and reducing landfill waste.
“I encourage everyone in the region to continue to make Return and Earn a part of your routine,” said Dorney. “Together, we are contributing to a sustainable future, where materials from our bottles, cans, and cartons are reused rather than wasted.”
