Kapture, a leader in innovative carbon capture solutions, is making significant strides in sustainable concrete production with the announcement of successful trials for its CO2 capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) technology.

The breakthrough process effectively captures carbon dioxide emissions from combustion sources and embeds them permanently in concrete, reducing emissions while enhancing the material’s performance.

In collaboration with PERMAcast, Western Australia’s leading supplier of precast and prestressed concrete products for major infrastructure projects, Kapture has conducted extensive trials of its carbon-embedded byproduct in concrete production.

These trials rigorously tested the integration of the byproduct into existing concrete formulations, evaluating its strength, durability, and overall performance under real-world conditions.

“Our successful trials sequestering CO2 in concrete are a pivotal step forward in transforming one of the most carbon-intensive industries,” said Raj Bagri, CEO of Kapture.

“The trials have validated that Kapture has developed an innovative solution for the concrete industry without sacrificing performance or cost — no green premium! The byproduct will be available for use in the concrete industry in 2025.”

Preliminary lab results have exceeded performance expectations, showcasing improved material properties. Kapture’s technology integrates captured CO2 directly into the concrete mix, significantly lowering emissions from cement production, one of the most carbon-intensive materials in construction.

Cement production is one of the largest industrial sources of CO2 emissions globally, contributing to about 8 per cent of total carbon dioxide emissions.

The majority of these emissions stem from the chemical process involved in producing clinker, the primary component of cement.
