International textile designer and manufacturer Camira has unveiled the textile industry’s first AI-powered reverse image search tool in the UK, aimed at simplifying the specification process for architects and design professionals.

In collaboration with material search platform Stylib, Camira has integrated this advanced technology into its newly launched website, the company said in a media release.

The AI tool allows users to upload images of furniture, fabric, room settings, or Pantone colour references to quickly find matching Camira fabrics for their projects.

Sam Birkhead, head of Digital at Camira, expressed excitement about the new tool, stating, “We’re incredibly excited to be able to offer our customers this new and intuitive tool which enables architects and designers to quickly find precise products that meet their specifications, reducing the time spent on research and increasing the accuracy of their selections.”

Birkhead noted the uniqueness of the tool, highlighting that few B2B companies currently offer image search capabilities, a feature typically reserved for major retailers like Ikea and Wayfair.

“These advancements lead to faster and more confident specification processes, allowing for more efficient project timelines and improved overall design quality. Ultimately, AI’s integration is transforming the architectural landscape, paving the way for smarter, more sustainable, and innovative built environments,” he added.

Meanwhile, Noam Naveh, CEO of Stylib, noted that it was encouraging to see leading companies like Camira embracing advanced technologies that aid the work of the specifying community.

He highlighted that, in addition to speeding up and improving the accuracy of specification processes, AI in the architectural products sector holds wider potential for promoting sustainability, driving innovation, and fostering collaboration.

“AI’s ability to analyse vast datasets allows for the identification of eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient solutions, promoting sustainable design practices.”

“Additionally, AI fosters innovation by providing architects with insights into emerging trends and new technologies, enabling them to push creative boundaries,” Naveh concluded.
