The Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance (Manufacturing Alliance) has officially opened its new office in Canberra, marking a significant step towards enhancing workforce planning and skills development within the Australian manufacturing sector.

This new base will allow for improved connections with regional partners and a more responsive approach to industry needs, as stated in a news release.

Sharon Robertson, CEO of the Manufacturing Alliance, highlighted the importance of the new office in strengthening ties with various stakeholders.

“With headquarters in Melbourne, this expansion aligns with the goal of building stronger connections across the Australian manufacturing sector for a more responsive approach to workforce development,” Robertson stated.

The Canberra office is strategically co-located with Industry Skills Australia, the Jobs and Skills Council (JSC) for Transport and Logistics.

This arrangement is expected to facilitate collaborative efforts and resource sharing between the two organisations.

Graeme Russell, chair of the Manufacturing Alliance Board, expressed optimism about the potential for cross-collaboration within the sector.

“The solutions to the manufacturing sector’s workforce skills challenges lie in broader and deeper engagement with key stakeholders – industry, unions, training organisations, and government – and in working closely with other Jobs & Skills Councils,” Russell explained.

“Our Canberra office will expand our engagement with important stakeholders in developing and executing solutions to industry’s skills needs.”

The office was officially inaugurated by Russell on 25 September in Barton, Canberra, ACT.
