Robotics Australia Group (RAG) has announced that leading construction companies Laing O’Rourke and John Holland have signed on as industry sponsors, aiming to drive the advancement of robotics and automation technologies in the Australian construction sector.

The two Tier 1 builders will collaborate with local developers to integrate emerging robotic solutions, improving both productivity and safety on construction sites, Laing O’Rourke revealed in a news release.

The partnership is part of an open innovation model, fostering cooperation between construction firms and technology suppliers.

Dr Sue Keay, chair of Robotics Australia Group, expressed her excitement about the sponsorship, stating, “It is critical for the Australian robotics supply chain to have industry support and involvement in their product development, in refining and validating potential use cases, and in raising awareness of the technology.”

She added, “Laing O’Rourke and John Holland are great examples of this type of involvement.”

Laing O’Rourke’s continued sponsorship, now in its third year, has been integral to RAG’s mission. Dr Regan Crooks, Director of Strategy, Transformation and Innovation at Laing O’Rourke, highlighted the company’s dedication to fostering innovation.

“We are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the Robotics Australia Group. Robotic and automation technologies can help us significantly improve the construction industry and make it more resilient and sustainable,” she said.

John Holland, known for its innovation in technical excellence, echoed similar sentiments. Ron Azzi, Group General Manager of Technology, Engineering & Knowledge (TEK) at John Holland, emphasised the importance of robotics in shaping the future of construction.

“By working together with RAG, we can accelerate the adoption of robotics in the construction industry, contributing to a more efficient and sustainable future,” Azzi stated.

Both companies will contribute to refining Australian-made robotics solutions, accelerating their implementation across projects, and shaping the future of construction in Australia.
