Stanwell has unveiled a new fly-through animation of Queensland’s largest renewable hydrogen project, giving the public a glimpse of the Central Queensland Hydrogen Project (CQ-H2).

The animation, revealed at the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen 2024 Summit in Brisbane, brings the project’s critical elements to life, showcasing the scale and impact it will have on the region.

Led by Stanwell in partnership with a global consortium, CQ-H2 is expected to generate thousands of jobs during construction and support 1,000 direct and indirect jobs once operational.

“Stanwell is driving the development of the renewable hydrogen industry in Queensland by leading the CQ-H2 project along with consortium partners from Japan, Iwatani Corporation and Marubeni Corporation, and Singapore’s Keppel,” said Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke.

Once completed, the project is set to deliver $14.5 billion in hydrogen exports and contribute $8.9 billion to the region’s Gross Regional Product (GRP).

The hydrogen produced will be exported to Japan and Singapore, while also serving large industrial customers in Central Queensland.

The fly-through animation highlights key aspects of the project, including the hydrogen production facility, a pipeline for hydrogen gas, a liquefaction facility, and an ammonia production plant at Gladstone Port.

A solar farm, operated by ACCIONA Energia, will provide renewable energy to power the project.

“Seeing the fly-through come to life is an exciting milestone for the project as it tells the full story of how these critical elements of CQ-H2 all come together and what the completed project will look like,” added O’Rourke.

Scheduled to be operational by 2029, CQ-H2 is also the only Queensland project shortlisted for the Federal Government’s Hydrogen Headstart funding, making it a frontrunner in Australia’s hydrogen energy future.

The visualisation of CQ-H2, developed in collaboration with the VISER team at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), is also available for public viewing on the project’s website.
