The Climate Council is celebrating the recent announcement that the Future Made In Australia Act is poised to emerge from the Federal Government’s policy production line.
Amanda McKenzie, CEO of the Climate Council, lauded the announcement, emphasising its potential to address climate pollution while creating a plethora of clean job opportunities.
Drawing parallels with similar policies in the United States, McKenzie highlighted the impact such initiatives can have, catalysing investment and job creation on a substantial scale.
As one of the sunniest and windiest countries in the world, this is a huge opportunity for Australia,” McKenzie asserted.
“The Act could serve as a game-changer, accelerating investment in clean energy and bolstering nascent industries.”
According to the CEO, central to the Act’s objectives is the diversification of Australia’s economic landscape, particularly through the expansion of clean manufacturing and critical minerals sectors.
Dr Wesley Morgan, senior researcher at the Climate Council, underscored the urgency of seizing this opportunity amidst a rapidly evolving global energy landscape.
“Change is coming no matter what, so holding onto coal and gas exports is like clutching our Kodak cameras as the rest of the world goes digital,” Dr Morgan stated.
With a nod to the global momentum towards renewable energy and sustainable practices, Dr Morgan emphasised the Act’s potential to position Australia as a key player in emerging energy markets.
He said that by aligning policy frameworks with the imperatives of clean manufacturing, the Federal Government aims to unlock significant economic dividends while safeguarding the planet for future generations.
“With the right policy settings, the Future Made In Australia Act can unlock huge economic benefits – in new industries, more jobs and a safer climate future for every community,” Dr Morgan affirmed.
He concluded, “The Federal Government is making a smart choice by prioritising clean manufacturing.”
