Electro Optic Systems is delivering its Slinger counter-drone systems to Diehl Defence in Germany as part of a $15 million contract.
Delivered through a contract secured by EOS’ Defence Systems business unit, the systems will be integrated into a lightweight 4×4 platform, providing a defensive capability to protect critical assets from drone attacks.
Dr Andreas Schwer, CEO of EOS, the new contract with Diehl Defence marks another milestone in the global commercial success of EOS’ Slinger counter-drone system, which was launched in early 2023.
“Born from EOS innovation, with proprietary tracking technology, and shaped by real-world combat experiences, Slinger continues to evolve, drawing on ongoing lessons from the field. This contract is a testament to its growing relevance and effectiveness in today’s rapidly changing defence landscape,” Schwer said.
Designed and developed in Australia specifically for export markets, the Slinger counter-drone system is capable of tracking and engaging moving drones at a range of more than 800 m, depending on the weapon configuration used.
Slinger was developed with a focus on addressing contemporary and emerging threats based on lessons learned in recent conflicts, EOS said in a media release.
The system can incorporate unique ammunition, making it suitable for built-up environments. It also includes a radar system, a range of weapon configurations, and EOS’ proprietary stabilisation and pointing technology.
The contract requires the delivery of systems, spares, training, and related services. The systems are slated for delivery in 2024, per agreed milestones and other customary terms.
In performing the contract, EOS said it will tap into a support network and supply chain comprised of over 100 suppliers across Australia and beyond.
