EPOC Enviro, an Australian environmental technology company, has rolled out the first US-built SAFF (Surface Active Foam Fractionation) unit from its manufacturing facility in Mooresville, North Carolina.
The move signifies the company’s commitment to providing a localised solution for the growing PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination issue in the United States, EPOC Enviro said in a media release.
SAFF technology, an award-winning process developed by EPOC Enviro, utilises Surface Active Foam Fractionation to remove over 99 per cent of harmful PFAS contaminants from various water sources.
The US production facility in Mooresville is an extension of the company’s capabilities, previously manufacturing exclusively in Western Sydney, Australia.
“PFAS contamination is the water quality issue of our time, and we are proud to be creating a sustainable solution exclusively for the US market right here in Mooresville,” stated Shaun Melrose, EPOC Enviro VP-North America.
He emphasised the urgency of addressing PFAS contamination, highlighting the seven-month effort to establish local production and meet the rising demand for effective remediation solutions.
EPOC Enviro’s SAFF technology has been recognised for its success in remediating PFAS at more than eight locations in the US, contributing to a total of 26 locations globally.
To date, the technology has successfully treated over 170 million gallons (650 million litres) of impacted waters across three continents.
The uniqueness of SAFF lies in its ability to separate and concentrate PFAS contaminants from diverse water sources, including groundwater, surface water, landfill leachate, and industrial wastewater.
With 98 per cent of Americans reportedly having PFAS in their blood, there is a growing global concern about the persistent and bioaccumulative nature of these ‘forever chemicals’ and their impact on human health and the environment.
EPOC Enviro’s SAFF technology stands out for being nature-based, producing no waste other than highly concentrated PFAS.
It can be seamlessly integrated with other PFAS destruction technologies, offering a comprehensive and permanent eradication solution.
In addition to direct sales, EPOC Enviro has formed partnerships with American companies Crystal Clean and Allonnia to introduce a ‘closed-loop’ PFAS remediation and destruction solution known as 4never.
The company aims to provide a valuable contribution to challenging markets such as landfill leachate and industrial wastewater remediation.
“This SAFF is the first of many to come off our US production line, and we want people to know that we are here for the long haul, delivering a manufactured technology together with a comprehensive after-sales service,” concluded Shaun Melrose, underscoring the company’s commitment to addressing the critical issue of PFAS contamination in the United States.
