Australia’s journey into the future of technology has taken a significant step forward as the nation’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Month kicks off today.
Running from 15 November to 15 December, this pioneering initiative is spearheaded by the National AI Centre (NAIC), situated within Australia’s national science agency CSIRO.
The agency said in a press release that AI Month serves as a rallying call to all Australians, urging them to actively participate in the formation and planning of the AI future they envision for their nation.
The initiative aims to unite leading AI organisations, entrepreneurs, and researchers, providing a platform to showcase domestic expertise while fostering discussions on Australian perspectives regarding AI.
Stela Solar, director of the National AI Centre, emphasised the central role of AI Month in fulfilling the NAIC’s mission to carve a path toward a responsible and inclusive AI future for Australia.
Reflecting on the rapid advancements in AI over the past year, Solar underscored the need for Australia to seize the AI opportunity and enhance its global competitiveness.
“This month we are encouraging everyone to join in the important conversations to make the AI opportunity real. Together we can shape a responsible and inclusive AI future for Australia,” the director noted.
With over 50 free and ticketed AI-related events hosted by more than 40 organisations, AI Month promises to be a comprehensive exploration of the nation’s AI capabilities.
Workshops, panel discussions, hackathons, and conferences will highlight AI use cases, opportunities, best practices, and the robustness of Australia’s AI industry.
“AI Month is a moment to learn new things, sharpen your skills, and step into new opportunities the future,” Solar said.
The official launch of Australia’s AI Month took place this morning at the opening of “Friend or Foe – The Rise of Artificial Intelligence,” a new exhibition by Australian technologist and artist Luke Millanta at Queston.
The Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic officiated the launch, marking the significance of the event.
