AEROBOND, an Australian sustainment and manufacturing company specialising in precision-guided munitions, hypersonic weapons, and integrated air and missile defence systems, announced its successful award of a Federal Government Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority Grant.
This grant, with a total investment of $1.7 million, will allow AEROBOND to expand its manufacturing capabilities, ensuring the production of high-quality munitions and defence systems at scale, the company said in a news release.
The Federal Government’s strategic investment, coupled with AEROBOND’s matching funds, will pave the way for AEROBOND to transition from prototyping and initial low-rate production to large-scale manufacturing.
This significant milestone is also set to elevate AEROBOND’s contribution to Australia’s defence industry by enhancing precision-guided munitions and associated systems production.
The key project activities under this grant will encompass the acquisition of additional machining capability, expansion of coating capacity through the installation of larger temperature-controlled paint booths, and the implementation of automated composite filament winding capability.
These investments will significantly bolster AEROBOND’s role in supporting the defense sector with cutting-edge technology and products.
According to Justin Struik, the managing director of AEROBOND, receiving this grant represents a crucial opportunity for their company.
“To be awarded this grant, is a prime opportunity for us to take the next steps in our journey to becoming Australia’s privately-owned Centre of Excellence for lightweight structural solutions and be able to accelerate our growth plans to support our Australian and International Partners,” Struik noted.
He further stated that they are making a substantial commitment to the defence industry in Australia and expressed their excitement about the future of their organisation for their team and clients.
“This new grant is going to strengthen our capability, innovation and value-add to the Commonwealth, which is an achievement we are very proud of,” Struik concluded.
In addition to this remarkable achievement, AEROBOND has also secured a new contract with Kongsberg Defence Australia to manufacture the NSM launcher canisters.
As a result, AEROBOND is set to take its operations to a new level by relocating to a purpose-built facility in Adelaide, spanning 3,500 square meters, scheduled for early 2024.
