Industrial automation and digital transformation giant Rockwell Automation has secured a contract to supply energy management software to Real Pet Food Company to boost sustainable manufacturing across four production facilities in Australia.
The energy management solution, provided by Rockwell’s consulting division, Kalypso, is aimed at digitalising Real Pet Food Company’s energy management processes, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
Real Pet Food Company, known for its popular pet food brands such as Nature’s Gift, Farmers Market, Ivory Coat, and V.I.P, said it sought this sustainability upgrade as part of its commitment to environmental responsibility.
Anthony Wong, regional director of South Pacific at Rockwell Automation, commended Real Pet Food Company’s dedication to sustainability, stating, “Real Pet Food Company is showing leadership by not just talking the talk but walking the walk when it comes to sustainability. By committing to measurable actions, they will help improve the planet as well as their bottom line.”
Real Pet Food Company currently relies on manual data entry through spreadsheets and clipboards to manage its energy consumption, resulting in decentralised and disconnected information and a lack of real-time management.
The adoption of Rockwell Automation’s energy management software promises to provide the company with better visibility into its energy consumption linked to production data, thereby identifying optimisation opportunities.
Jarrod Edgecombe, head of Sustainability at Real Pet Food Company, emphasised the company’s renewed focus on sustainability, driven by its strategy for a “Fresher Future” and the philosophy that “Every Pawprint Counts.”
The partnership with Rockwell is set to transform data availability, increasing the volume and quality of data essential for real-time decision-making and the ongoing reduction of energy intensity and carbon footprint in the company’s operations.
Moreover, the energy management software seamlessly integrates into Rockwell Automation’s ThingWorx IIoT platform, which is part of the FactoryTalk InnovationSuite powered by PTC.
This platform allows users to connect, manage, monitor, and control various automation devices and software applications through a single, intuitive user interface.
Upon full implementation, the energy management software will significantly enhance Real Pet Food Company’s energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and provide access to real-time operational data for reporting and audits.
Notably, the software development involved local software engineers, enabling the Australian teams from Kalypso and Rockwell Automation to draw upon extensive experience to create the optimal sustainability solution for Real Pet Food Company.
Once fully installed, the Energy Management software will help increase Real Pet Food Company’s energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and allow access to real-time operational data for reporting and audits,” said Wong.
He added, “The software was developed in part by local software engineers, so the Australian teams from both Kalypso and Rockwell Automation had extensive experience to draw upon when creating the optimum sustainability solution for Real Pet Food Company.”
