The Northern Territory government has opened applications for a new $1.5 million grant program aimed at supporting new recycling infrastructure projects in the state.
The Circular Economy NT (CENT) grant program will provide support for projects that create or improve recycling, reuse, or remanufacturing of waste currently going to landfills.
CENT aims to boost the Northern Territory economy by turning waste into a valuable commodity. The program aims to build a strong onshore recycling and manufacturing industry while simultaneously addressing regional and remote waste challenges in the Territory.
“The Circular Economy NT grant program provides an opportunity for businesses, industry and government to work together to reduce waste and lay a foundation for an efficient and modern recycling industry in the Territory,” said Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Security Lauren Moss.
“Proper waste management not only reduces the negative impact on the environment but also helps to cut costs and increase efficiency.”
The program will prioritise two waste streams: construction and demolition and food organics and garden organics.
Applications for projects aimed at addressing commercial and industrial, and e-waste, including PV Solar Panels, will also be accepted.
Eligible projects must demonstrate economic development opportunities through the development of new domestic markets for recycled materials.
The grant program will award a minimum of $50,000 for approved projects and matched funding will be required from applicants.
Applications will be accepted until 5 January 2024 and will be assessed on a competitive basis.
