Engineers Australia CEO Romilly Madew AO and Board Chair and National President Nick Fleming are set to visit Denmark, Dublin, Cambridge, and London beginning August 19 to boost the organisation’s international relationships.
Madew stated that the pair will spend 12 days interacting with industry leaders and engineering professionals to learn more about leading international practice and innovation, Engineers Australia said in a media release.
“We’ll be attending meetings and site visits with industry leaders that will give us valuable insight into European engineering innovations and processes,” the CEO noted.
Beginning in Copenhagen, Madew and Dr Fleming will meet with officials from Systematic, a software engineering firm that creates solutions for defence, police, and health.
After that, they will meet with representatives from DOLL Living Lab, a smart cities technology demonstration firm.
The pair will also visit the Amager Resource Centre, a Danish recycling company, before meeting the Australian Ambassador and executive directors at Aalborg University.
On their last day in the country, they will visit the Skylab workshop at the University of Denmark to see how students, organisations, and start-ups use a cross-disciplinary learning environment.
Over the course of six days, Madew and Dr Fleming will meet with representatives from Laing O’Rourke in England.
They will go to the Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology, the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction, and the Laing O’Rourke Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction.
The pair will also have a tour of Two Fifty-One, one of the highest precast structures in Europe and one of the company’s projects.
Officials from Imperial College London, WSP, the UK Green Building Council, the London Engineering and Design Institute, Engineering UK, Engineering Council, the Institution of Civil Engineers, the UK Nuclear Institute, and Engineering UK will also be present, as will the Deputy Head Mission for Australia at the Australian High Commission in London and Engineers Ireland in Dublin.
Additionally, the pair will participate in roundtable discussions with European industry leaders such as Arcadis and the Australia-United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce.
This will be the first trip to Europe for Engineers Australia delegates since the COVID-19 pandemic.
