CIMIC Group member UGL has secured a contract with the Department of Defence to provide guidance, planning, supply management, operations, and maintenance for the Australian Defence Force’s fuel network.

The contract will require UGL to provide all operations and maintenance services through the Defence Fuel Network nationally, as well as strategic asset advice and assurance services.

The Defence contract, which includes optional extensions up to 2035, is expected to generate approximately $500 million in revenue for UGL over six years.

Work on the contract is expected to create more than 350 jobs and open career opportunities for apprentices. Local suppliers will also be tapped throughout the duration of the project, CIMIC said in a media release

Work is slated to begin this month.

“CIMIC Group companies have delivered significant projects and services across major army, air force and naval bases throughout Australia, including some of the nation’s most complex infrastructure and warship refit and repair services,” said Juan Santamaria, executive chairman at CIMIC Group.

CIMIC Group is a coalition of engineering-led construction, mining, services, and public-private partnerships working across the lifecycle of assets infrastructure, and resources projects.

Doug Moss, managing director at UGL, said the company boasts expertise and a nationwide presence in Australia that allows it to provide a resilient and capable fuel network for ADF.

“I’m pleased that we’ll be able to offer local supplier and employment opportunities across the country, as well as continuing our commitment to increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment and supplier engagement,” Moss said.
