BYD, one of the largest plug-in electric vehicle manufacturers, has rolled off its five millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), making it the first automaker in the world to achieve this milestone.
The Chinese manufacturer said the milestone vehicle, a DENZA N7, was unveiled at a ceremony held at BYD’s global headquarters.
Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD, expressed his delight at the historic event, emphasising the company’s gratitude to customers throughout the world for their trust in their products.
“On this special occasion, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our customers across the globe for their trust in our products, our partners in the industry for this journey shared together, and every one of our employees whose hard work and dedication have made this landmark possible,” Chuanfu stated.
BYD spent 13 years to reach one million new energy vehicles, another 18 months to reach three million, and now, only nine months to reach five million.
The company also revealed that its new energy vehicles showed tremendous growth in 2022, with total sales exceeding 1.86 million.
The trend continued in 2023, with the company selling 1.5 million units from January to July, including 92,469 units sold internationally, which topped the total offshore sales for the full year of 2022.
BYD’s global new energy vehicle sales had surpassed 4.8 million units as of July 2023, demonstrating the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.
To date, the company has NEVs currently available in over 54 countries and electric public transportation solutions in 400 cities across 70 nations.
The Blade Battery, DM-i Super Hybrid System, and e-Platform 3.0 are examples of the company’s innovative drive, which is supported by over 40,000 patents registered globally.
BYD is also pushing the transition to a greener future with plans for three new plants in Brazil and a persistent commitment to eco-friendly mobility, coinciding with its mission to Cool the Earth by 1-degree Celsius.
