The Western Australian government announced that Walpole has joined the state’s EV Network with a new EV fast charger now operating in Pioneer Park.
The new charger, delivered by Synergy, has a capacity of up to 150 kilowatts and allows vehicles to charge in as little as 20 minutes. A backup 7.6 kW charger is also available.
The charging station is located on the northern side of the South West Highway, directly across from the Walpole Town Centre, the government revealed in a media statement.
“The new fast chargers along the WA EV Network are opening up the State for EV drivers,” said Energy Minister Bill Johnston.
Along with the brand-new fast chargers in Williams, Manjimup, and Albany, the minister stated that the new charging station in Walpole guarantees that EV drivers may travel with confidence from Perth to Albany.
He added that the north of the state, including Geraldton, Northampton, Lancelin, and Broome, now has EV charging stations operational.
“By easing ‘range anxiety’ for EV drivers, my Government is encouraging the uptake of electric vehicles and supporting WA’s road to net zero emissions by 2050,” Johnston noted.
Meanwhile, Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie expressed her excitement that Walpole is the newest link in WA’s EV Network, which is opening the state for EV drivers.
“The new charger will benefit Walpole locals and visitors alike, ensuring EV drivers can visit with confidence,” Kelsbie remarked.
The Western Australian EV Network will be the longest in the country, reaching over 7000 kilometres from Kununurra in the north to Esperance in the south, and east to the Eucla.
It will include 98 new charging stations spread across 49 locations along critical travel routes that are typically less than 200 km apart.
The $21 million Network is part of the State Government of Western Australia’s State Electric Vehicle Action Plan.
