H2X Global, a Sydney-based hydrogen fuel cell vehicle manufacturer, has won its second contract with Swedish municipal garbage business Renova AB worth up to 240 million SEK (AUD 34.3 million) to supply commercial vehicles for the city of Gothenburg.
Upon completion, H2X Global said the contract will establish the largest fleet of its kind in Sweden, as announced in a media release.
The award was given to H2X Gothenburg AB, a subsidiary of H2X Global, and it came from a second public offer that was made available in December 2022.
Vehicles in 12 of the 13 categories included in the tender, including both the 18 and 26-tonne vehicle classes, have been successfully secured by H2X Global.
Owned by 10 municipalities in western Sweden, Renova is Gothenburg’s waste management operator and will be responsible for operating the vehicles that will be developed and rolled out over the next three years.
H2X Global further revealed the demand for the hydrogen fueling station Hynion built will be increased by the launch of these vehicles, among other things.
Earlier this month, Hynion, a provider of hydrogen fuel in Scandinavia, partnered with H2X Global to build commercial fleets of hydrogen-powered cars and the support systems needed to keep them functioning.
By opening in Q1 2024, the station will help Gothenburg City and Renova AB fulfil their pledge to convert their fleet to zero emissions.
Bill Moss, H2X’s head of sales and marketing, said the award from Renova AB and the City of Gothenburg is a testament to H2X Global’s superior products and client care in the move towards zero-emissions transportation.
“This recognition acknowledges H2X Global’s leadership among other OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) in achieving the goal of decarbonising the commercial transportation and waste sectors,” Moss noted.
H2X said it will assemble the vehicles in Sweden as part of its mission to promote local development and make hydrogen a cost-effective solution for decarbonising back-to-back fleet operations.
“The new range of vehicles offered by H2X has been developed to perfectly meet the needs of the Scandinavian and European markets for zero-emission commercial vehicles,” stated Peter Westh, H2X’s head of Northern Europe.
Westh added the initiative complements European projects focusing on carbon-free mobility solutions and is in line with the most recent energy transition directives in Sweden.
