Western Sydney University academics have been awarded ARC grants totalling $1,351,506 through the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Program.
The funding achievement, according to Professor Deborah Sweeney, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Enterprise & International), underlines Western’s dedication to being at the forefront of transforming research into significant and quantifiable outcomes.
“Western’s outward-facing research focus and sustained research excellence – combined with a drive to be a partner of choice for industry, government and communities – optimises translation and drives innovation. It is this convergence of strength that contributes to impactful economic, social and environmental change,” said Professor Sweeney.
Some of the projects that were successfully funded focus on the improvement of aged care, employment and enterprise of newly arrived young migrant women, and addressing misinformation with media literacy through cultural institutions.
The grant funding also paves the way for initiatives that concentrate on next-generation mining systems as well as affective visual cultures in Australasia.
Meanwhile, Ms Judi Zielke PSM, Chief Executive Officer of the ARC, stated that collaborative research is critical to transforming industries, building communities, and strengthening the Australian economy.
“By supporting the development of partnerships, the ARC encourages the transfer of skills, knowledge, and ideas as a basis for securing social, commercial and other benefits of research,” said Ms Zielke.
The ARC Linkage Program aims to foster national and international long-term strategic research partnerships between researchers and businesses, industry, community organisations and other publicly funded research agencies.
