SciDev Ltd will supply Iluka ResourcesJacinth-Ambrosia Operation with MaxiFlox® chemistry under a three-year, $14 million contract.

In a statement, SciDev said the new contract at Jacinth-AmIlukabrosia extends SciDev’s collaboration with Iluka at their Cataby Operation in Western Australia, which began in 2019.

According to SciDev, its Chemistry division focuses on the discovery, production, and supply of various chemistries that assist our clients in improving operational efficiency and reducing waste output.

SciDev’s chemistry is now being used on-site to treat mine tailings to maximise water recovery while minimising the tailings footprint.

“The new contract at Jacinth-Ambrosia further extends our relationship with Iluka, where we are working across multiple sites to reduce their tailings footprint and maximise water recovery. Our ongoing relationship with Iluka reflects both the quality of our products and the skill set of our team. We remain actively engaged with a number of international and domestic resource clients, and we expect the sector to deliver future growth opportunities for SciDev in FY23 and beyond,” SciDev CEO Sean Halpin said.

According to Iluka, South Australia’s Jacinth-Ambrosia Operation is the world’s largest zircon mine. The mine, which consists of two contiguous deposits, Jacinth and Ambrosia, is located roughly 800 kilometres from Adelaide and 270 kilometres from the Port of Thevenard.

The mining and wet concentration activities at Jacinth-Ambrosia are combined, with heavy mineral concentrate shipped to Iluka’s Narngulu mineral separation plant in Western Australia for ultimate processing.
