Local manufacturing business Katherine Joinery will now begin offering stainless-steel forming and laser-cutting services to its customers in the Big Rivers region in the Northern Territory.
Backed by the NT government’s Advanced Manufacturing Ecosystem Fund, the latest addition to Katherin Joinery’s manufacturing capabilities will allow the company to replace fully imported products, reduce customer lead times, and enhance product quality.
The new capabilities will also remove the need to carry out additional post-manufacture alterations needed on current products in order to satisfy local design regulations.
Furthermore, Katherine Joinery will now be able to design and manufacture more cost-efficient kitchen and wet area solutions for remote housing builds and upgrades in the Territory.
Leveraging advanced methods, the company will also be able to develop a new modular stainless steel kitchen solution to supply ready-to-assemble kitchen solutions for in-field assembly.
Katherine Joinery will match the Territory Government’s $104,102 contribution dollar-for-dollar, with an additional in-kind contribution of $103,256 for supply services and equipment.
The co-investment project will commit a total of $311,460 worth of cash and in-kind support to grow local jobs and capability in the Katherine region.
“Critically, by recognising that manufacturing is more than just production, Katherine Joinery will be increasing the number of jobs in the design and engineering in the region, while lifting the skills of the Big Rivers manufacturing ecosystem,” said Charmaine Phillips, director for AMGC Northern Territory.
“Through the support of the Territory Government and the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre, we will be able to improve our capabilities, reduce lead times and generate jobs – which will benefit the entire Big Rivers community,” said Ashley Jennison, director of Katherine Joinery.
“Furthermore, the project will allow us to respond to the unique requirements of the Northern Territory, while developing better quality kitchen products that offer greater value to our customers across the Top End,” she added.
