Neoen has chosen CIMIC Group‘s UGL to build the high-voltage infrastructure that will link a Tesla-supplied Battery Energy Storage System to Neoen’s Western Downs Green Power Hub, around 250 kilometres west of Brisbane.
In a statement, CIMIC Group said following completion, the battery, which UGL will also place, will work alongside Neoen’s Western Downs solar farm, allowing stored energy to be delivered into the Australian electrical network beginning in the summer of 2024/2025.
According to CIMIC Group, UGL is an expert in the design, building, and operation of renewable assets, having built 11 solar farms and installed three large-scale batteries.
CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “CIMIC is actively pursuing the emerging opportunities driven by the energy transition and we’re proud to again work with Neoen. Battery Energy Storage Systems provide critical grid support services, improving the reliability of energy supply for many Australians, as well as helping contribute to meet Australia’s net-zero aspirations.”
