A new taskforce that will renew NSW’s modern manufacturing sector was recently announced. The goal is to accelerate the development and adoption of modern manufacturing capabilities in NSW-based industry sectors.
The New South Wales government has assigned research and business leaders as members of the manufacturing taskforce. The group will spend the next four months reviewing options for NSW’s manufacturing strategy.
The New South Wales Modern Manufacturing Commissioner, which is yet to be announced, will finalise the strategy for the taskforce. This comes during efforts to strengthen ties between the manufacturing industry and universities to develop advanced manufacturing.

The group will provide recommendations to the government to revise New South Wales’ manufacturing strategy.
Stuart Ayres, Minister for Enterprise, Investment, and Trade said that the Modern Manufacturing Taskforce brings together academia and industry experts and research for a strategy that focuses on innovation, productivity, and competitiveness in NSW.
“New South Wales already has an excellent reputation in manufacturing, in sectors ranging from food and beverage to aerospace. This group will hone the opportunity we have post-COVID to address challenges to build a manufacturing powerhouse,” Mr. Ayres said.
The taskforce’s recommendations and findings will be consolidated into a strategy that will be completed by the New South Wales Modern Manufacturing inaugural commissioner.
Recruitment for the commissioner role is ongoing, the chosen candidate will be a part of Investment NSW and will be on an initial 12-month role.
